The History Behind the Calgary Ceremonial White Doves

Warren and Cora Smith are the owners and operators of the Calgary Ceremonial White Dove release business. Their home and pigeon lofts are located in Airdrie, Alberta. Warren has raised pigeons most his life while living in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. He then moved to Regina and had to sell all his birds during his stay in the city. He and Cora met and married in Regina in 1998,  they moved to Alberta two years later. Warren has always missed having pigeons, so when they moved to the small city of Airdrie in 2004, he decided to get back into raising and training pigeons. They built their first pigeon loft (pictued above left) in their back yard in the fall of 2004. He purchased about 20 pure white homing pigeons from various breeders that same year. In 2005 he raised many young white pigeons from the adult birds that he acquired. They then built their second loft (pictured above right) in the fall of 2005 to house all the new youngsters that they raised that year. That same fall and winter, he spent many days and drove many kilometers training the birds to fly home from all over Calgary. Now the business is up and running under the name of Calgary Ceremonial White Doves. You will be hiring someone who is a professional bird handler with a vast knowledge of pigeons and pigeon habits.
